Successful workshops by employees for employees
The personnel department responsible for advanced training received much positive feedback at the beginning of December. The occasion was the training initiative ‘Knowledge in Action’ that took place on 27/11/2019 for the first time in Ulm. On that day employees offered their colleagues numerous training measures with the goal of sharing experiences and knowledge in near-the-job training. According to the motto “Knowledge is most valuable when it is shared” interdisciplinary teams discussed various topics from e-mail etiquette to product training for newcomers.
Taking the cold plunge (or not)
You’ve graduated from school, signed your trainee contract, and are looking forward to your first paycheck – but uncertainties arise as you are about to begin your first year of training. How are things done here? Where do I find who I am looking for? Who can I ask and what would others do in my situation? These and other questions were answered by the training team during the traditional Introductory Days at the beginning of September, which was attended by all 15 trainees in Ulm and Lindenberg.
Lindenberg company outing 2019
In July of this year the employees of the Lindenberg location again took part in the annual company outing. Divided into three groups, the Mayser employees set off for the “Hofgut Ratzenberg” farm restaurant. This year’s highlight: All employees had the opportunity to say goodbye over coffee and cake to Managing Director Manfred Jordan, who is entering his well-earned retirement after many years of loyal service.
5,203 kilometres to protect the climate
For the sixth year in a row, Mayser employees in Lindenberg left their cars parked to participate in the nationwide “Stadtradeln” city cycling campaign. During the event, which lasted from 24 June to 17 July 2019, the 31 employees cycled a total of 5,203 kilometres. This corresponds to an average of 168 kilometres per cyclist and CO2 savings of 739 kilograms. Compared to last year the employees from Lindenberg increased the total distance cycled by more than 1,000 kilometres. In September, the employees in Ulm will likewise have the opportunity to take part in the event.
Award of German language course certificates
Mayser currently employs people of more than 30 different nationalities – some of whom have only rudimentary knowledge of German. To improve in-house communication and interaction with fellow employees, and also to ensure work safety and high quality, the company has offered an in-house course in German – with great success! After 17 intensive weeks, all 18 participants passed the course and proudly received their certificates at the beginning of July.
In the party mood with International guests
Under sunny skies 370 visitors gathered at the courtyard of the Ulm location for the company-wide summer party. The highlights of this year’s party: the traditional manning of the grill by members of management as a way of thanking the employees for their daily commitment, an art contest for the kids followed by a sale of the pictures for a good cause, and a hat fashion show, in memory of how it all began
Mayser receives training certificate 2019 PLUS
The importance of opportunities for young people is not limited to sports. In times of shortage of specialists it is very important for enterprises to give young people the opportunity for high-quality training, to encourage and prepare them for their careers. Such training is long established at Mayser. As an enterprise in the field of foam and safety technology Mayser is aware of its responsibility for providing young people with the best training possible. As in 2018, Ulm’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce again rewarded this contribution, with the training certificate 2019 PLUS.
Strong team effort brings Mayser all the way to the quarter-finals
On 6 July 2019 Mayser competed with more than 20 other teams in the traditional West Allgäu company football tournament. As opposed to previous years where the team consisted exclusively of employees from Lindenberg, players from Ulm joined the team for this year’s tournament. Ideal weather conditions for football provided the perfect setting for an enjoyable day of team play beyond the workaday world.
Innovative thinking begins in the training phase
Whether in an IT project or a marketing campaign: Comprehensive project management is the key to success. But how can one of the numerous new methods be optimally adapted to a project and a team? Mayser is continuously in search of pioneering ideas in order to further increase the effectiveness of projects and processes. That is why a bachelor student of the Neu-Ulm University wrote her final thesis this year at Mayser on the subject “Agile project management for trade fair organisation”. The thesis focuses on adapting the Scrum method to trade fair planning at Mayser.
Mayser gains PSI as new sales partner
This year Mayser gained PSI, which specialises in pneumatics and sensors, as a new sales partner. This cooperation will allow Mayser to further expand the sales network in Ireland and to provide extensive consulting services for the customers located there. Another advantage: We can better assess the local market situation and respond faster to changes. Mayser employee Kim Wiker has already visited PSI, to prepare the team for its new task in an in-depth product training program. The cooperation can therefore begin as planned on 1 July.
Environmental management: Mayser grows with the requirements
Since 2010 the experts from TÜV Süd have visited the Mayser locations in Ulm once per year to audit the company’s environmental management system. In May, this audit was completed for the tenth time – and Mayser once again received the ISO 14001 certification. However, both the auditors and those being audited are aware that the process of developing into an environmentally friendly company is never complete. Because the requirements continue to grow year for year.
Campaign “500 bottle caps for a life without polio”
Social commitment is a high priority at Mayser, which is why we always support the dedication of our employees to a good cause. The bottle cap collection campaign of the registered association “Deckel drauf” (which translates loosely as ‘Put a lid on it’) inspired the apprentices in Lindenberg to start their own campaign. Located in Nuremberg, the association is collecting plastic screw-on bottle caps through the end of June 2019 in a campaign titled “Caps against polio” to generate donations for vaccinations to prevent the disease. The campaign, which was initiated in 2014, so far has financed three million oral vaccinations worldwide.
Not quite ready for the “scrap heap”
Sustainability is a major issue – also at Mayser. We look closely at what is still usable and what belongs on the “scrap heap”. In any case, not the nursing care bed that served us well in our product development. The Mayser Works Council in Ulm therefore took the initiative and auctioned off the bed, which was still in good condition, instead of disposing of it.
Personality as an aspect of competence
When we search to recruit the specialists of tomorrow at career fairs such as “zukunftwangen”, we are of course always interested in competences – but not only professional ones. The cultural fit of a future employee is gaining importance in the field of recruiting. That is why we at Mayser place high importance on human and social capabilities, and offer our apprentices numerous measures for personal development. Most recently with competence training, which gave the apprentices in Ulm and Lindenberg valuable insights for their career and private lives.
Automated transport systems need the USi®
The 17th edition of LogiMAT, the International Trade Fair for Intralogistics Solutions and Process Management, set new records this year for exhibitors and visitors. Some 60,000 visiting experts and 1,624 exhibitors from 42 countries got together in Stuttgart. We too were there, and were able to perceive the continued growth of the industry at our booth. The highlight of our exhibit was once again the USi®.
Mayser customer event in Alcalá de Henares
Employees from Mayser and the company’s distributor Aprimatic welcomed customers and partners from throughout Spain to an information event on the subject of safety products. A special focus was on the presentation and explanation of Mayser ultrasonic sensors.
Donation presented to Ulm association
In 2018, Mayser employees from all departments again participated in small and larger fund-raising campaigns. The proceeds were donated to the Förderkreis für tumor- und leukämiekranke Kinder Ulm e.V. (Association in support of children with cancer and leukaemia).
Mayser trainees initiate St. Nicholas’ Day fund-raising activity
Social commitment is a tradition at Mayser. Because we regularly support charitable organizations and projects. On St. Nicholas’ Day, first-year trainees initiated a charity drive for Ulm’s hospice. They raised funds by baking cakes for their fellow employees.
Fast, faster, Mayser trainees
Last year, the trainees in Ulm visited their colleagues in Lindenberg; the return visit took place recently. The trainees at both locations have been looking forward to the visit for a long time – especially the excursion to the “Ecodrom” indoor go-cart track in Neu-Ulm. Thrilling races gave Mayser’s young talent a chance to demonstrate speed and control.
HRC sector relies on Mayser’s ultrasonic expertise
At the end of October, some 120 decision-makers and users from the field of human-robot collaboration (HRC) met at the Human-Robot Forum in Stuttgart. In recent years Mayser has earned a reputation as a specialist for non-touch collision protection systems in this fast-growing market. One of the speakers at the forum was Mayser robotics expert Matthias Schwerthalter from the Lindenberg location who discussed the use of ultrasonic sensors in HRC.
Interesting conversations between lecture hall and career entry
On 24 October 2018 we sought contact with students at the University of Ulm’s career fair, to make them aware of Mayser as an innovative industrial enterprise and attractive employer in the region. Numerous visitors to our booth resulted in interesting conversations with promising candidates especially in the field of electrical engineering.
Online positions: Mayser in search of specialists
Due to the shortage of skilled personnel, enterprises in the Ulm area have long faced the challenge of finding candidates for open positions in skilled trades and industrial occupations. That makes it all the more important for Mayser to be represented at such events as the Young Talents Day in Neu-Ulm’s Ratiopharm Arena. This year Mayser again used the opportunities offered by the event for meeting and talking to potential future employees from diverse technical fields.
Isotron becomes Mayser sales partner in Benelux
In mid-July 2018 Mayser began a cooperation with the automation specialist Isotron Systems as a sales partner. As a result Mayser is now better positioned in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, with improved local support. Isotron is expanding its product portfolio to include Mayser safety products – such as safety mats and edges, sensor profiles, safety bumpers and safety shoes, in addition to the USi® ultrasonic sensor.
Lindenberg and Ulm: A strong running team
In the 14th Einstein Marathon, Mayser employees from Lindenberg and Ulm displayed outstanding sportsmanship and team spirit. This year marked the 3rd time that Mayser sent a team to participate in the local event. The runners achieved a respectable result, with a total of 269 kilometres.
Expertise for increased safety in public transport
From 18 – 21 September in Berlin, Mayser once again presented its solutions as a leading specialist for improved safety in local public transport at InnoTrans, the leading international trade fair for transportation systems. The focus at this year’s trade fair was on non-touch safety systems for bus and train doors.
Strong interest in safety systems made in Germany
From 5 to 7 September at inter airport in Beijing, Mayser Ulm and Mayser Kunshan presented their expertise for safety technology in the area of airport ground handling. Everyone anticipated the first joint exhibit with excitement. The response of the visitors to Mayser’s products was very positive.
Mayser Team Kicks its Way into the Quarter-Finals
At the traditional Westallgäu company football tournament on 7 July, 2018 in Lindenberg, the Mayser football team put on an impressive performance full of passion and commitment. 20 teams competed against each other, and the tight-knit team of Mayser colleagues reached the quarter-finals.
Mayser celebration and opening ceremony in Belleville
In 2008, when Mayser opened the first subsidiary outside of Europe in Belleville, Michigan, that was a big step for the company. Our courage paid off: Since 2012 Mayser has its own production capacities there, currently with a total of 140 employees in production and sales. The employees, together with their families and business partners, celebrated this success and the 10th anniversary of Mayser USA on 25 August in a very successful event. The highlight of the day was the official opening of the new company premises.
About 140 kilometres for a good cause
At the 12-hour run of the Oberstaufen-Westallgäu Lionsclub, the Mayser running team defied the heat on 30 June, and showed themselves to be in top form. A total of 194 participants signed up for the charity event, in which a five-figure donation was collected. The proceeds went equally to Lebenshilfe, the Kinderschutzbund, the district association of the Bavarian Red Cross and the Caritas Sozialstation in Lindenberg.
Summertime is family time at Mayser
Our employees look forward to Mayser’s annual summer party every year: All employees can bring their families to the company and celebrate together with their colleagues form the Ulm and Lindenberg locations in an informal atmosphere. A total of 350 guests attended this year’s party – 100 more than last year! Highlights included such diverse activities as the search for the “Mayser Super Talent” and the children’s painting contest. In an auction, the pictures raised a sum of 1000 euros for a good cause.
Mayser receives training certificate 2018 plus
As a leading manufacturer of foam and safety technology we at Mayser traditionally see it as our responsibility to recruit competent junior staff. We recognise the importance of high-quality training and support Ulm’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce with voluntary examiners. But our apprentices are also active as volunteers, because personal responsibility and social competence are important traits that Mayser promotes in its employees. Mayser’s commitment has now been recognised by Ulm’s Chamber of Industry and Commerce with the award of the training certificate 2018 plus.
Fun and socializing after hours
Finally time for longer conversations, to get to know the colleagues better and to talk about something other than work for a change – that was the purpose of the after-work event organised by the Mayser Works Council on 17 May in the “Barfüßer” brewery in Ulm. The first event of this type was the starting signal for a new team event format: Four times a year all employees will be able to celebrate the end of the workday in the company of their colleagues, at alternating locations.
MAYSER HELPS TO SHAPE LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORT OF THE FUTURE
For the first time Mayser participated in the satellite exhibition at the VDV annual conference from 11 to 13 June in Potsdam. At Germany’s most important event for local public transport and rail freight transport, the industry’s decision-makers showed great interest in non-touch obstacle detection and fire retardant sensors.
Posting, sharing, riding the roller coaster
Virtual success – very real fun: With the support of the Mayser trainees at the Ulm and Lindenberg locations, the company’s Facebook page was launched successfully last year. Now the trainees in Ulm redeemed their reward, and with an extra 500 euros from the motivation fund, visited the Skyline Park in Bad Wörishofen in the Allgäu region on 15 June.
Foam and Safety Technology under one roof
Automotive Interiors Expo Europe in Stuttgart is a special trade fair for Mayser: It is only the second time that our products from the areas of Foam and Safety Technology are on exhibit there. Until tomorrow (Thursday, June 7th) industry experts can visit our booth to learn about leading technologies for car interiors.
Steadily increasing number of technical training programmes at Lindenberg location
This year for the first time, Mayser will be attending the “zukunftswangen” fair hosted at the centre for vocational training in Wangen. Thanks to this addition to their schedule, the company is now presenting at two of the region’s most important fairs for training in technical occupations. Mayser has already been a staple at the “career info fair” in Lindenberg since 2005 – this year taking the wraps off a new booth concept including robot.r.
You social background should not make a difference
Since 2015, Mayser has been awarding a German National Scholarship to fledgling scholars attending Ulm University who have distinguished themselves by their exceptional academic performance prior to and during their studies. Mayser has now decided to grant the same scholarship to students enrolled at the region’s other major institute of higher learning: New-Ulm University.
Dedication of employees makes it possible to promote creativity among children
A priority for the Mayser staff is to support social projects on a regular basis. Through the sale of gingerbread and candy canes at the Christmas party the colleagues at Lindenberg raised an impressive sum, which was donated to the St. Martin kindergarten.
Trade fair booth provided info on training opportunities and offered additional activities
With 45,000 visitors, the education fair in Ulm is one of the most important regional events for acquiring young employees. Mayser successfully presented the image of an innovative company with appeal as a modern training company.
Extensive expansion of the training workshop
The quality of training is very important at Mayser. That is why the training workshop was recently upgraded with state-of-the-art technology and expanded from an area of 60 to 150 square metres. The investment also includes an additional CNC machining centre that was put into operation in the adjacent maintenance area.
Successful signing of contract enables expansion to Senden
On 25 October Manfred Jordan, Managing Partner at Mayser, and Raphael Bögge, First Mayor of the city of Senden, signed the contract for the purchase of the 40,000 m2 plot in Senden’s industrial area. This step will secure the company’s development potential and competitiveness for the future.
Sponsoring for the iBots team of the Neu-Ulm Lessing Secondary School
Supporting young people is a high priority at Mayser. The company especially likes to help regional groups that are interested in robotics. Like the iBots team that recently qualified for participation in the RoboCup 2017 in Nagoya, Japan. Congratulations to the team for taking second place in the category OnStage Secondary – Individual Team.
Mayser presented the company and provided tips for applicants
About 1300 potential employees visited the “Young Talents Day” in Neu-Ulm’s ratiopharm arena last Saturday to become acquainted with enterprises in the region. Mayser not only had a booth, but the company’s HR officer Giulia Lampmann also held a talk before a large audience.
Together with thyssenkrupp, Mayser has developed an innovative tool safety for cobot applications in aggregate assembly.
The efficient and safe cooperation of human and robot is now possible – thanks to the development of the failsafe Ultrasonic safety of Mayser. It is the only ultrasonic sensor worldwide that is approved for personal safety according to ISO 13849-1:2015, Category 3 PL d. A lightweight robot has now been equipped with the safe ultrasound together with thyssenkrupp System Engineering. It reliably protects the human from the effector in the collaboration with the robot.
Mayser is successfully presenting itself as a training company
The trade fair vocatium offers companies the possibility to support students from the region in choosing a career and or a degree. Mayser presented its formal training and the integrated degree programme for engineering economics at the vocatium.
Great interest in Ultrasonic safety
For the first time, Mayser was at the leading trade fair for the automation industry in Italy together with Italian representative Ssitac. Numerous visitors and manufacturers got information about Mayser solutions for the safety technology at the trade fair booth.
Robotics congress: Mayser presents economical and safe cobot applications
On 8 February, robotics experts convened in Hannover, with the focus on “Collaborating Robots: Fit for Everyday Use?” as the central topic. Mayser was invited as an expert for the podium discussion and gave a presentation on safe and productive cobot robots and economical solutions such as ultrasonic safety, soft covers, and tactile and capacitive collision protection.
Youth development is of great importance at Mayser
Mayser has supported students of the Ulm University of applied science with the Germany Scholarship for two years. This has been awarded throughout Germany since 2011 to entrants and students, whose background leaves one to expect outstanding performances in study and profession.
On the 25th of September, all eyes in running sport were on the twin cities Ulm and Neu-Ulm.
The Einstein Marathon has long since become a major event in the region. In addition to athletic ambition, the main focus is on team spirit. This concept is also what attracted Mayser: The company's team of 38 runners, from the two German locations Ulm and Lindenberg, celebrated their debut at the starting line.
From the 21st to the 24th June, Mayser presented itself for the first time as an HRC system supplier at Automatica in Munich. We exhibited a system specially tailored to robotics, made up of several safety components, which includes the robot itself, the immediate environment, and also the area around the tools and the workpiece.
