Non-touch surface sensor

Providing protection from being pinched and injured by the car

Car components that close automatically, such as not only the power liftgate or side and sliding doors, but also seats which adjust automatically, can become a source of danger. The patented Mayser technology is therefore proactive and detects people or conductive objects before there is a painful collision. 

Sensors mounted in plastic interior covers or other non-conductive material imprint an electric field and enable non-touch monitoring. If a person or a conductive object approaches this field, then it changes. This allows the field to detect objects, so the movement (such as closing the power liftgate) is stopped or reversed. The effective area of the sensor can be subdivided into several zones which can each be independently controlled and activated as required. An additional acoustic signal can also be activated. 
Prototypes of Mayser surface sensors have already been tested by well-known automobile manufacturers in Europe and the USA. We are currently working with several companies on pilot projects.

Advantages of the non-touch surface sensor:​

  • It provides non-touch protection from power liftgates, side and sliding doors as well as automatically adjusting seats.
  • The surface sensor which is only a few millimetres high can easily and cost-effectively be installed behind plastic interior covers. 
  • Sensor sizes up to 2 m² and with virtually any type of surface geometry, including recesses, are possible.
  • The sensor has electromagnetic compatibility and is not susceptible to failure caused by environmental influences as it is invisibly mounted behind parts of the interior cover.
  • It can be combined with noise insulation fleece.
  • The same vehicle interior cover parts can be used for vehicles with and without sensors.
  • Several zones which are independent of each other can be set up.
