Mayser ultrasonic safety: Reliable detection via ultrasound

Lindenberg/Ulm/Munich, 21 June 2016 – Humans, machines and transport vehicles in production processes are collaborating increasingly closer together and share common working spaces – this affects human-robot collaboration, intralogistics and production lines. To ensure maximum safety for humans, non-touch systems safeguard the aforementioned areas. Now Mayser has developed its ultrasonic technology to create an ultrasonic safety system and is consequently entering into additional areas of application for non-touch safety applications, for example in harsh environments.

The Mayser ultrasonic safety system is the ideal solution for non-contact detection of persons and objects as well as for distance measurement in harsh environments. Unaffected by dirt, ambient noise, air flow or moisture, it reliably detects both people and objects in a wide variety of materials, regardless of shape, transparency and colour. This is made possible by a compact, sturdy transducer with a strong elliptical sound field (+/- 17°, +/- 5°) and a reach of two metres. The system is thereby in compliance with Safety Standard ISO 13849-1, Category 3 PLd.

Versatile use

The Mayser ultrasonic safety system is comprised of a control unit with up to two sensors (ultrasonic transducers). The sensors can be freely positioned and can be installed independently of the control unit in the smallest spaces. This guarantees high flexibility for both installation and definition of the field to be detected. To extend the field, it is possible to connect several units.

The special feature of the ultrasonic safety system is the teach-in function: this enables the device to learn the complete measuring environment, including the objects located in the detection field. A further advantage: the operating parameters can be flexibly adjusted with user-friendly software. Operating mode, switch points and the relevant ultrasonic parameters like echo gain, sensitivity, multiple scan can be adjusted on site according to requirements.

Whether for environment monitoring, collision protection, access control or the detection of positions and distances, there are a variety of application areas for the ultrasonic safety system.
